Workshops

My workshops are held either in my garden studio in Winchester or within community & school settings across Hampshire.

Home workshops

My Craft Cocoon studio is quite unique as it’s an abandoned swimming pool lovingly converted by my husband Tom to create a cocoon-like space that is warmed by a log burner (or cooled by a row of reclaimed windows!) and surrounded by trees and nature. It is a truly wonderful space in which to inspire students of all ages and backgrounds. I can accommodate individuals and groups of up to 10 people to come along and create from clay, perfect for friendship groups, creative birthdays, wellbeing days and other celebrations such as hen parties.

School & community workshops

My creative workshops within the community include working in schools and Pupil Referral Units, youth groups, hospitals, support groups (Young Carers, Simon Says Bereavement), CAHMS referrals and other organisations doing great work.

My workshop philosophy?

I believe deeply in the process of art as therapy. I encourage students to make the workshops their own with plenty of flexibility in the classes. I believe in the power of art and creativity to positively promote mental health and well-being.

‘The well-being sessions run with teachers have always been full of enjoyment and create a safe space to try out different skills, a chance to learn together and build confidence. The feedback after the sessions has always been really positive with many leaving the session not only with a beautiful piece of art but the confidence to think more creatively in their professional practice.’

Cat Cooke, Hampshire Cultural Trust

‘Ceramics/pottery is a subject that is all about expressing your creativity. The goal for most students is to learn about artistry and translate their ideas into visual pieces. Jill listens to our students and helps them to feel comfortable when they run into problems helping them achieve what they want to do and what they’re trying to express. She has a fantastic quality to help them make art out of their ideas. My students are always asking when she is coming back.’

Sam Linaker, Teacher at Rowhill School, Aldershot
